Alpenglow makes National Geographic

National Geographic featured the Center for the Arts' Alpenglow Concert Series in a travel article entitled Free to See: 20 U.S. Music and Dance Events. Sharing the spotlight with Crested Butte's little free concert series are big players in big cities like the Daily Kennedy Center Concerts in Washington, D.C.; Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series in New York; Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts; and the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans.

The Center's Alpenglow Concert Series successfully completed its 19th year of free music this past summer, with eight concerts and over 8,000 music and food lovers packing the park. Visitors and residents mingled and danced to a vast array of music from blues and country, to swing and Ghana-infused percussion.

The article states, “Music and mountain scenery are both free of charge in beautiful Crested Butte.” But what they don't mention is the professional grade picnicking taking place.

Tips of the hat are also given to the Gunnison Arts Center's free concert series on Sundays and the Crested Butte Music Festival.
