Contemporary jazz group, The Lao Tizer Band, is driven by an explosive mix of jazz, rock, classical, jam band, Afro Cuban and world rhythms. Rising to the top of the world-fusion genre, this scintillating five-piece, multi-cultural band creates dynamic instrumental music rich with fresh melodic, harmonic and improvisational possibilities. Their intensity, expansive arrangements and exciting soloing won them a nomination for “Jazz Group of the Year,” while band leader Lao Tizer was nominated as “Best New Jazz Artist.” They’ve taken their multi-faceted cultural and musical melting pot around the globe, galvanizing thousands at events such as the Java Jazz Festival (Jakarta, Indonesia), Joy of Jazz Festival (Johannesburg, South Africa), and Festival International Providencia Jazz (Santiago, Chile). With five albums under their belt, and weeks on Billboard’s “Contemporary Jazz Chart,” they’ve also played alongside Zappa Plays Zappa, Jethro Tull, Isaac Hayes, Al Jarreau, Spyro Gyra, George Benson, Soulive and Bruce Hornsby. Says JazzTimes, “Tizer functions on high-octane playing with long improvisational passages and intricately crafted motifs and counterpoint.” The Lao Tizer Band is comprised of veteran world-class musicians Lao Tizer (piano, keys), Tita Hutchinson (vocals), Gene Coye (drums), Jeff Marshall (guitar) and Ric Fierabracci (bass).
